  VOTING MEMBERSHIP MEETING

  On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., the Louisville Association of Paralegals will hold an in-person meeting of the voting membership to discuss and vote on proposed amendments to the LAP Bylaws.

  The LAP Board is committed to fostering a more inclusive and relevant association. To achieve this goal, all provisions of the Bylaws of the Louisville Association of Paralegals, Inc., approved on October 11, 2018, are being reviewed. The current bylaws can be viewed at loupara.org/Bylaws.

  Please note: No amendments are being proposed that would affect the eligibility or benefits of current Voting/Joint LBA Members.

  Proposed amendments include updates to:

  1. Expand membership opportunities to paralegals in nearby communities without established local paralegal associations. The proposed expansion may include membership eligibility for paralegals in the following areas:
     • Kentucky counties: Jefferson, Bullitt, Hardin, Henry, Larue, Meade, Oldham, Nelson, Shelby, Spencer, and/or Trimble;
     • Indiana counties: Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Madison, Scott, and/or Washington;
  2. Approve voting membership for paralegals graduating from paralegal studies programs which are not ABA-approved, but in substantial compliance with ABA approval guidelines at the time of graduation;
  3. Remove the provision requiring candidates for Vice President to have served at least one term of office on the Board of Directors;  
  4. Create a category for Adjunct membership for program directors and educators at ABA-approved paralegal programs and paralegal studies programs meeting the substantive legal studies requirements pursuant to the ABA guidelines.

  The LAP Board has opened a 10-day period for questions and comments. Your feedback during this 10-day period is vital. Please submit your questions and comments to the Board at louisvilleparalegals@gmail.com before 4:00 on April 8, 2025.

  We also encourage you to attend the Voting Membership Meeting on April 8, 2025. The in-person meeting will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, at a location still to be determined. The location will be posted on the LAP website when available and provided to members who register for the event.
